Your Story fits my Character – Day #52 20130114

I’ve read that observing and listening to people improves your dialogue.

Yesterday I went to the front desk where I am staying this week to get change so I could do my laundry. It’s been a long trip. The gal behind the counter starts telling me this amazing story about her childhood. Normally I would have found a way to escape the avalanche of words, but I’m a writer now so I activated my beacon and let the snow take me down the hill. I was thinking, wow, this totally fits my main supporting character xxx. I’m hearing xxx’s childhood.

Later in the evening I molded that “truth is stranger than fiction” story into my writing time. It was like getting a chunk of good Welsh cheese parachuted in from Haymitch. Thanks dude!

Writer’s diary portion: 1,707 words, now at 60k. Approximately 35 more days. Not sure I am looking forward to exiting the content creation phase. But, who knows, maybe I will enjoy editing. 😀

It is cool what you can learn from other people, good stories and weird personalities. Sounds like you got a real gem from the woman at the desk.
